The special elections for the Member of the House of Representatives to represent the Second Legislative District of the Province of Zambales will be held on the 4th of February 2012.
In this connection, be informed of the following critical dates:
Election Period – December 21, 2011 to February 14, 2012 (45 days before, and 15 days after the special election)
Filing of Candidacy – January 16 to January 18, 2012 (3 days)
Campaign Period – January 19 to February 2, 2012 (15 days)
The elections will be manual and, during the Election Period, the carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons will be prohibited.
The holding of the special elections was scheduled in response to the Resolution, adopted by the House of Representatives on the 16th of November 2011, “certifying to the existence of a vacancy in the Second Congressional District of the Province of Zambales and calling for a special election to fill such vacancy.”
Republic Act No. 7166 directs the COMELEC to fix the date for special elections of this nature “not earlier than 60 days, nor longer than 90 days after the occurrence of the vacancy.
The Second Legislative District of Zambales has 200,841 registered voters, and is comprised of 10 municipalities:
Botolan – 28,591 voters; Cabangan – 12,709; Candelaria – 14,357; Iba – 24,950; Masinloc – 24,610; Palauig – 21,358; San Antonio – 16,112; San Felipe – 12,121; San Narciso – 15,331; and Sta. Cruz – 30,702
