Snake

Let me tell you, I went nuts with the original Nokia version of Snake.

I remember that I first encountered this addictive game on my first ever Nokia – this awesome 3210 that I’d modified to within an inch of its life.

As an aside, I’ve had numerous other Nokias since then but I still consider the 3210 – the one I affectionately called Doris (short for ‘door is kept open,’ because the damned thing was heavy enough to be a doorstop) – one of the best evar phones.

Anyway, that bit of nostalgia aside, I had that phone during the time of my life when I had to do a lot of waiting. I had to wait for this person, I had to wait for that class, I had to wait for a taxi… that sorta thing. To fill up those slack-y moments, I invariably turned to good ole’ Doris for some brain-less, non-committal entertainment.

Sad to say, I left Doris in the back of a cab.

Newer models of Nokia also carried Snake, but those were upgraded versions from the original. Instead of a snake made of square pixels, the new versions had snakes decorated with diagonal bands, and of course, the tron-like version of the newest phones. While technically superior to the original, none of them could be considered as endearing as the original.

The original had an innocent quality about it that made it relaxing. The newer versions were frenetic, meth-driven, moble phone versions of grand theft auto. It was hormonal and insanely competitive and it left you gasping for breath. No thanks.

Nowadays, I don’t much play games on my phone. Qwerty types are just too complicated for simple games like Snake. So imagine my surprise when I stumbled across this video clip.

Haha. Snake lovers, be prepared for a serving of awesome!

Wow, right?

And now, while coming down off of that buzz, unwind with this online version of Snake.

Yes. You are welcome.
