Voting – and of course, registering to vote – is too important to leave up to chance. Hindi pwedeng pupunta ka na lang kung kailan mo lang maisipan. And if you wait for when you have “free time,” well, “free time” never actually comes, right? Especially now, we really have to plan to do things to make sure that they really happen.
Ganun din ang pagpaparehistro. Kailangan, pinagpa-planuhan. And to make doubly sure that you follow through with your planned pagpaparehistro, you should have a RehisTropa.
A WHAT???
RehisTropa – a registration buddy – is the person who supports your decision to register to vote. You need one, so that going to the voter registration center isn’t such a daunting prospect because you don’t have to go alone; if you forget to make time for voter registration, your RehisTropa can remind you; and if you start to lose interest, your RehisTropa can help revive your determination. So, basically it’s a voter support system, because – we may not have realized it before – everyone needs a little push sometimes.
So here’s what we’re gonna do.
- You’re gonna identify who your RehisTropa is going to be. It could be your best friend, or your mom, or your significant other – whoever. What matters is that they know you want to register and they’re willing to help you get it done.
- Explain to your RehisTropa what their role will be, and how important it is for you and, heck, for the whole nation that they keep you on track with your decision to register.
- You’re gonna write down your plan to register. I added a sample form that you can download and print, so you can stick it up on your wall or your fridge door, or wherever you need to put it so that you can always see it and it can always remind you of your commitment to register.
- Give your plan to register to your RehisTropa and, if they don’t have it already, your cell number so that they can call you on your chosen day to register and remind you to get your ass moving.
- And lastly, you’re going to be someone else’s RehisTropa too!
