I stumbled onto a weighing scale a couple of days before and once the damned thing quit groaning, it gave me something to really groan about. I’ll spare you the details, but suffice it to say, I’m a fecking neutron star.
So i finally gave in to my better angels and flubbered my way to the gym where I got on a treadmill and tried my best to match my personal best of 16,000 steps taken. Again, I’ll spare you the details, except to say that I got nowhere near that. However – and this is a big but (pun sightly intentional) – this foray into fitness led me to a number of resolutions.
First, get myself a pair of wireless earphones. Music blaring into your ears relieves the tedium of walking on a treadmill, and while that same result could be achieved with ordinary wired headphones, well, why not wireless?
Second, learn how to use Spotify or make peace with paying for Apple music. After years of avoiding it, I found using Apple music to be intuitive – much more so than Spotify which I’ve had for years but still haven’t learned how to use it – nothwithstanding the patient efforts of some kind hearted explainers.
And third, quite possibly get a pedometer. I don’t know how useful it would be to know how many steps I’ve taken in a day or during an hour in the gym, but I can imagine how helpful the feedback would be. I am a big believer of the value of gamefication, after all.
So don’t get all excited – said as much to you as to me, sotto voce – but there might be something to this spasm of health consciousness coming so hot on the heels of the turning of the year. As a wise man once said – we’ll see.
