Sweden has officially recognized file sharing as a religion. The Church of Kopimism – which holds file-sharing as a religious belief was recently awarded the status of official religion after two failed attempts at getting recognized.
Kopimists adhere to the following axioms as articles of faith.
- Copying of information is ethically right.
- Dissemination of information is ethically right.
- Remix Spirit is a sacred kind of copying than perfect, digital copying, the remix of the cross-copying of the wealth of information.
- Copying or remixing information conveyed by another person is seen as an act of respect and a strong expression of acceptance and kopimistisk faith.
- Boarding is sacred.
- Code is law.
Wow, right? And with slogans like “Copy and Distribute!” “Full Knowledge to All!” and “What the technology laws of nature allow, we will not limit with secular laws!” this church seems like it was ripped straight from the pages of some pulp sci-fi novel.
Kopimistsamfundets symbol is a pyramid with the letter C inside. It is the symbol that you refer to as kopimistsamfundets symbol. It is, however, quite permissible to reproduce and copy any icon and name it kopimistsamfundets symbol, but it can not be used in more formal settings as community rites require. For example, when you give op, when an op is kopyacting or when you get kopimist.Different representation of copy times, as represenationer the key combination ‘Ctrl-C Ctrl-V’ is deeply sacred, and therefore should be treated as sacred symbols.
We are truly living in interesting times.
Makes me wonder. What does it actually take to start a new religion? If you have any ideas, share it in the comments below.
