The resumption of continuing registration is tentatively scheduled for August 1, 2010. Registration will then run until August 10, 2010. That’s just ten days so don’t waste time being primadonna-ish about registering.
For Sangguniang Kabataan voters, registration will be from July 15 to 25.
Why separate periods?
That’s because the August 1-10 registration period is the “for real” registration, i.e., for inclusion in the list of voters. This means that you would have to be 18 years old and above, not incompetent or insane, and so on. Registrants who meet these requirements and register on these days will be obliged to undergo biometric capture – we take a digital photograph of you, we take your fingerprints, and we electronically record your signature. Without biometric capture, your application for registration will be deemed incomplete.
Sangguniang Kabataan registration, on the other hand, is only for the purpose of participating in the SK elections. Which means a couple of things:
1. You have to be 15 to below 18 years old. Once you hit 18, you’re ineligible for SK and your SK registration automatically evaporates in a cloud of dust. If you wanna vote in any other election after that, you’ll have to register as a voter “for real;” and
2. There are no biometrics in SK registration, simply because your registration record doesn’t last for more than one elections.
So, there you go.
