Five things you need to know about Voter Registration during the pandemic.

  1. You need a mask and a face shield to be allowed inside the COMELEC office. No particular specs required, but you are required to wear them properly. Throats don’t need masking – your mouth and nose do; face shields do not shade you from the sun so wear them in front of your face, not sticking out in front like a visor; and, for your own sake if not for love of your fellowmen, DO NOT try to pass off a mask taped to a shield as some sort of “substantial compliance.” It isn’t, and you know it.
  2. You need to fill out the self declaration form, so bring your own ballpen. Don’t lie.
  3. The entry of people into the COMELEC office will be strictly controlled to ensure that distancing requirements inside the office are maintained. Every possible convenience will be provided senior citizens, PWDs, and pregnant women, but distancing must be maintained at all times.
  4. All the equipment you touch will have to be wiped down before the next user. Applicants will have to touch the fingerprint scanner as well as the pen and signature pad; each will have to face the camera without a mask. All those equipment will have to be sanitized between users, which means that the waiting time between each applicant will be longer than it used to be. This, in turn, will affect the number of people that can be registered in a single day.
  5. Applications for registration will be accepted only up to 3PM. If your application has not been formally received by then, you will have to come back the next day. And NO, applications will not be received in bulk. The rule of thumb is One Applicant, One Application Form, One-at=a=time. This is the safest way of doing this, and so there are no arguments for ‘greater efficiency’ to be made here.
