That #Pasig brand

Just saw the new #Pasig brand. And it’s really nice! Remarkable also for the lack of any apparent reference to anything (or anyone) other than 1) Pasig itself, 2) the eponymous river, symbolized by the wavy lower border of the word PASIG, and 3) the Pasigueno, symbolized by the standout “i.” This brand logo looks very clean, very graphic, and – most importantly – it very clearly communicates the value being placed on the individual citizen.

The slug line “Umaagos ang Pag-asa” I’m not so overwhelmed by, not for any particular reason other than that I believe that logos should primarily stand on their visual symbolism. Any accompanying slogan is, for me at least, just an accessory.

To be fair, however, a lousy slogan would ruin even a good visual logo. Like if this logo had a slogan that used a play on words to reference someone prominent, for example, then that would – to my mind – cancel out the merit of the logo.

Thank goodness they didn’t do that in this case.

This logo makes me wonder if any other NCR city has taken the effort to come up with a brand logo, and whether it’s just as good as Pasig’s.
